PRODUCT FOCUS - English Bone China

We are proud stockists of Repeat Repeat white china, the quality is first rate, just as you would expect from bone china made in England. Depicting an assortment of flora they are designed to work as a mixed collection of pieces. Each jug size depicts a different floral design, and the mugs are sold separately so you can match a set, pairs or even have complete eclectic mix.

Their designs may be contemporary, but traditional techniques are used to create them, keeping alive the age-old skills and craftsmanship of the English Potteries. Made the traditional way, starting with liquid clay poured into a mould by hand. each item then goes through around 20 hand processes, as well as three firings in a kiln before it’s ready. It’s a difficult process to get right but they are picky about quality -  these may be everyday objects, and they want every single one to be as pleasing and precious as possible. Because they’re made by hand, each piece may differ from each other very slightly, which we think adds to their charm and character.

Product Care

Washing Bone China

To keep bone china looking its best we recommend that it is washed as soon as possible after use. Gentle hand washing without using abrasive scourers is the best way to keep it looking pristine.

Washing in Dishwashers

It is fine to wash our bone china in the dishwasher but please ensure you stick to these guidelines. Make sure that the china does not touch any other item that may cause scratching or damage by vibration. Do not overload the dishwasher. Use the most delicate cycle available on your dishwasher. Ensure the maximum temperature is 60ºC (140ºF) or below. Use mild and gentle detergents not powders and tablets. Make sure there is a rinse cycle to wash away any detergent film. Please be aware that over time the glaze and ceramic colours on bone china will deteriorate with lots of dishwasher usage. Our White Bone China ranges have no printed colours and so will not be affected other than a possible slight dulling of the glaze over time. The same as your favourite T-Shirt may fade if you keep putting it through the washing machine. So, to keep your bone china in tip-top shape for years to come then gentle hand washing is the safest way to clean it.

Removing Stains

Wash your bone china as quickly as possible to reduce the possibilities of staining with strong tea or coffee.

Try removing stains by: Soaking in warm water before washing. Soaking a slice of lemon in water. Use a cleaning solution like baby utensil sterilising solution.

Bone China Durability

Bone china is delicate. If looked after properly bone china will last for years. Bone china may be damaged by extreme temperature changes for example hot water poured rapidly into a cold bone china mug may cause it to crack. A metal spoon placed in the mug before the hot water will help. If you take milk then adding it before the hot water will also help. Do not put bone china in the freezer, or heat above 60°C (140°F), or put it in contact with a naked flame. It must not be used for cooking purposes. Bone china will be more likely to crack with hot water if at sometime in its life it has had an impact.

Storing Bone China

To avoid scratching the surface do not store bone china directly on top of each other. Lift plates from the top and avoid scratching the plate beneath. Do not take the plate from the bottom of the pile. When storing mugs make sure they are not touching and stacking on top of other mugs to avoid scratching or chipping.
