FAQ

We're often asked questions about our wooden furniture. We've listed the most frequently asked questions with the appropriate answers below. If your question isn't answered here, please get in touch — we're here to help!

Q.Hang on, didn’t you used to be called Tony’s Furniture Centre?

A. Yes we did. Tony and Margaret have recently retired, and as a result, we (their sons, Ian and Steve Black) will be running the business. To reflect the changes we decided to change the name of the company to Blacks of Sopwell, combining the family name with our geographic location.

Q. What finishes are available?

A. We have a wide range of either hand waxed or lacquered finishes. Alternatively, we can supply our furniture unfinished for you to paint, wax or oil yourself.

Q. Can you make furniture to measure?

A. Absolutely. Just provide us with a rough sketch of your idea with all the relevant sizes on and we'll give you a free quotation.

Q. How long will I have to wait for my furniture?

A. If we have an item in stock then delivery could be immediate. If you're looking for made-to-measure or bespoke furniture, expect a lead-time of 4-6 weeks.

Q. Do you deliver the furniture?

A. Local delivery is free, and if you live further afield arrangements can be made.

Q. What woods do you work in?

A. We use only top quality Oak, Pine, Tulip and Ash woods, and all the timber we use is solid not veneer.

Q. How is your furniture constructed?

A. All our drawers have dovetail joints on all four corners and cabinets have tongue and groove backs (as opposed to hardboard).

Q. How would I get your furniture upstairs?

A. Good question! All our wardrobes are designed to dismantle for ease of delivery and to enable them to be taken upstairs and reassembled ready for use. This can also be extended to other items such as chest of drawers.

Q. What is the ordering process?

A. We ask for a 30% deposit when an order is placed and then the balance upon delivery of the goods. We accept cash, cheques and credit cards.
